Sophie Lavoie, Anne Émond, 2009. B&W. 8 min with Catherine de Léan, Émile Proulx-Cloutier in French with English subtitles
A single shot documents a young woman (de Léan) answering questions for a patient consultation. Though unfamiliar with her interviewer, the woman slowly, movingly reveals her past, her beliefs, and what has brought her to this appointment. This short film’s simplicity is belied by its remarkable depth of character.
Review
“With great intimacy and attention to detail, Émond embraces minimalism in a single take to enhance every nuance of Catherine De Léan’s stunning performance as the title character.”
