Wine is not hard to find in NYC. Inexpensive, good wine is a different story. After living a year on a vineyard in France, I can honestly say that my taste buds are spoiled when it comes to grapes and their fermented goodness.
In France, it’s possible to grab a bottle of wine for 5 euro from the bottom shelf without worrying if it will be tasteless or acidic. In the States, grabbing a bottle of French wine from the bottom shelf is risky business. I have found that it’s usually necessary to go above $12 for a decent bottle, especially speaking of du vin rouge.
As a young New Yorker trying to make ends meet, luxury is not an option. So I have set forth to try and find the best for my buck. Having good wine on the table while still maintaining money in my wallet is the goal. So I was more than excited when a friend introduced me to a bottle of $9.99 French wine the other night. 2010 Château La Garrousse Bordeaux red wine. Deliciously smooth, flavorful with a touch of velvety oak and bonus: inexpensive. How could it be?
I suggest this bottle for the budget conscious wine connoisseur.
